Afternoon Temple Tour
Ta Soum Temple: is a medium-sized temple in the Bayon style. This means it’s a Buddhist monument from the late 12th century. Architecture and decorations are typical of the reign of Jayavarman VII, whose fame is to have built more structures than any other Khmer king. Ta Som is one of the Khmer temples with face towers, which are considered to be a hallmark of the Bayon style, although they can not be seen at all monuments from this period.
East Mebon Temple: originally an island temple, rises impressively amidst a dry reservoir. It is adorned with elephant statues and detailed carvings depicting mythological scenes. As you explore its multi-tiered structure, youโll notice how it represents the transition in temple architecture from brick to sandstone. East Mebon is an exceptional spot to admire both the creativity and practicality of the ancient Khmer builders.
Pre Rup temple: is one of the most impressive and underrated temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park. Built in the 10th century by King Rajendravarman II, this stunning Hindu temple is a masterpiece of Khmer architecture and offers a quieter, more peaceful experience compared to the crowded Angkor Wat.
Kravan Temple:ย is a 10th-century temple constructed in the era of Harshavarman I (reign circa 910-922 AD) consisting of five brick towers. The temple was dedicated to Vishnu in 921 AD, according to the inscription. Itโs a site that is often skipped, which is a shame, as the style of bas-relief carvings here are quite unique, as the only other brick temple with inner bas-reliefs (that survives today) in Cambodia would be Preaus Meas (Phnom Trap).
